Olympia winch launching at Gliding Wairarapa

The Jury Hill Gliding Club operates from Papawai Airfield just east of Greytown in the picturesque Southern Wairarapa. The site offers excellent gliding potential with some of the best soaring conditions to be found in New Zealand.

The club specilises in low cost training using winch launching and also caters for the general public wishing to experience the thrill of motorless flight.

Flying occurs every weekend, on public holidays and during the week by arrangement. All flying is on a weather permitting basis. Vistors are always welcome.

Club Facilities

The airfield consists of two strips, north/south and east/west, allowing operations in most weather conditions. Launching is primarily by winch and the club owns two powerful V8 winches. Areotow launches are available by arrangement.

The clubhouse contains beds for overnight accommodation, a kitchen and a gas heated hot shower.
